A New Chapter

More than two months without any posts! That's a sign that it has been busy around here. Summer vacation for M&M started at the end of May and we have another month to go. The summer brings so many things....

But first here is a look at the last day of preschool for Miles, who is starting Kindergarten in one month!

The graduating class was singing a variety of songs with their teacher Ms. Heather.

Miles receives his 'diploma' from Ms. Heather. Off to Kindergarten!

But first there was cake and celebration.

Miles with Ms. Heather, his awesome teacher. Miles is not an enthusiastic poser. He is more interested in getting some cake and running around with his friends.

Melodie with her teacher Ms. Sherry. She will have her again next year. They like each other :)

Miles with one of his favorite buddies.

Melodie with Eva, who came along for the celebration.

All in all it was a nice day. I was dreading this day feeling very emotional leading up to it. It's the end of something. Being little. Kindergarten will be a whole different ballgame and the beginning of real school. But we feel lucky to have received a spot (through the lottery!)  in a nice public Montessori school that we have heard great things about.  Most importantly, his new teacher seems very nice.

Where did he go?

The morning after your birthday, it was a beautiful morning and we headed to the beach.

"look, I am 5!"

Happy 5th Birthday to Miles

FIVE!!! Hard to believe. It seems so much older than four.

You requested a cake with chocolate and M&M's.

Melodie pretended it was her birthday too. She was very interested in helping you open your presents!

Later that day we had a party in the park with friends and family. Once your friends arrived you never stopped running.

Time for cupcakes with M&M's of course.

Everyone was singing" Happy Birthday" and you got all embarrassed...

It was a great birthday and you were very happy and excited all day. Now you are five! One whole hand of fingers.

Papi Love

More beach fun!

Recently Melodie started saying "Papi" instead of "papa." We have no idea where she got that from.

visting the beach in January...

visiting the beach in March....

Feeling grateful to be living so close to the beach. Not matter what time of year, it's always different, relaxing and good for the soul. Both kids feel right at home on the beach, fully embracing everything it has to offer. They dig right in with their whole body. Even if the water is cold, they are not afraid.

Conversations with Miles

Miles: Mama, why do I go to school every day?

Me: So you can learn important things like the ABC and about Dinosaurs and the Universe. And so you can play with your friends every day.

Miles: But I already know everything.

Me: Oh, you do??

Miles: Yes

Me: Ok, do you know what letter CAT starts with (I know that this is a hard one for him since C sounds like a K)?

Miles: (looks at me with big eyes while he recites CAT and tries to figure out the sound of C). KKKKK.....it starts with K!

Me: no Miles, it starts with a C. See, you still have things to learn.

Miles: Oh.

Miles: Mama, when I grow up I want to marry Melodie.

Me: Oh you do?

Miles: yes.

Me: well, Melodie is your sister and people don't marry their sister.

Miles: why not?

Me: eh, we just don't.

****************************************************

Miles: Mama, will I live in this house when I grow up?

Me: what do you mean grow up? you mean when you are a Papa?

Miles: yes, when I am a Papa.

Me: well, you will probably live in your own house with your family.

Miles: Will you and Papa and Melodie live with me?

Me: Not sure. We will probably live in a different house.
